Is there a fee to register with TOAB?
We do not charge a fee to be registered with us. If you are booked for a shoot we charge a 15% Agency Fee Plus GST. This is deducted from your payment prior to being remitted to you.
Do I need professional photos?
Photos are the most important thing you need to think about before applying to be part of our portfolio.
Sending us existing happy snaps out and about, in dress ups, wearing sunnies, holding drinks, cropped photos of odd shapes will make your profile look unprofessional and will dramatically reduce your chances of being presented or selected by a client for a role.
You DO NOT have to have professional photos to apply for a profile with us. However, you DO need to follow our "Tips for Taking your Own Photos" and provide us with the types of photos we need.
What types of photos do I need?
- Close up head shots: Head to mid Chest. At least three.
- This must be in colour.
- Please look directly at the camera
- Your facial expression is very important.
- Please use your eyes and smile so that we can see some personality from you. Its great to get at least three different types of expressions, if possible, to choose from
- When a client looks at photos, they want to see variations in expression.
- If you just look at the camera and stare blankly without a smile, you will not engage the interest of clients.
- Mid shots: Head to waist. At least one.
- Please refer above. These are similar to the Headshots but provide the client with more of your frame. You can use this to change the angle of your photos.
- For example, you could have your body facing forward and then turn and look to camera on the side, which will show some of your profile.
- Full length shots: Straight to camera head to toe, smiling.
- Side Profiles: Please take a left and right, side profile shots from head to waist. Please tie your hair back.
- Hand Shots (NOT ESSENTIAL): If you are interested in hand modelling, please take photos of BOTH of your hands, including your wrist and a little of your forearm, with your hands palms up AND down. In addition, if possible, please include shots holding or doing something with your hands.
What are the benefits of professional photos?
Professional headshots will make your profile more appealing and are necessary if you are experienced and are looking to land hero roles. However, they can be quite costly to invest in and maintain, especially if you are a beginner.
If you provide us with professional headshots please ensure they are an accurate representation of what you look like (no more than 18 months old) and are not overly retouched. We will need at least two headshots (one must be smiling) and one full length.
If you are going to arrange new professional headshots, please contact us before the shoot so we can help you get the best out of your shoot. We can also provide you with some headshot photographer recommendations.
How long will it take for my registration to be approved?
Please allow 1-2 weeks for your profile to be reviewed and approved. Once approved you will receive and email with a link to create a password and details on how to login to your online profile via our Syngency Agency App. If you have any questions regarding your registration you can email [email protected]
What happens after my profile is approved?
Once your profile is approved, you will become visible on our website. We will then share your profile with our clients for all suitable roles. Our clients will also be able to browse our website and view your profile. If you are shortlisted for a role we will contact you to check your availability and interest in the role. In some instances additional photos or video self tests will be required or you may have to attend an in person casting or audition.
When will you contact me?
Our clients will provide us with a shortlist of people they are considering for a role. If you are shortlisted, we will contact you. We are not able to contact you every time we present you for a role.
Will clients contact me directly?
No, all job offers and castings should come via our office. If a client contacts you directly after a booking is made through TOAB, you are required to refer the client back to your booking agent. Direct client bookings are against our booking terms and conditions.
How often should I update my profile?
Regular profile updates will ensure that you keep your profile fresh. Sometimes it takes one new photo to capture the attention of a client.
Its critical we are aware of any changes to your appearance, as that change could be the difference between you being cast for a role. If you make any changes to your appearance please upload natural clear digis and send through a quick email to detail the change. The key changes we need to know about are; dramatic haircuts, colour changes, visible tattoos and piercings, significant changes to facial hair, braces and lost teeth.
For children, photo updates are even more important as they change and grow so quickly. Please ensure you update your child's profile at least every six months. Or monthly if they are under one..
What type of files can I upload to my profile?
Once your profile is approved you will be able to upload photos, audio files, videos and links to YouTube and Vimeo footage.
Please note that when you upload files you will not see them appear on your profile automatically. We need to review them and publish the ones that we feel will benefit your profile.
How many files can I upload to my profile?
You can upload as many as you want, the more we have the better. Additional photos will allow us to tailor client presentations.
We will not publish all of your files to ensure we maintain a balance between quality and quantity.
How do I set up a family or couple profile?
To register as a family or couple, each person will need to apply for an online profile. You are only able to register one email address per account, so please contact [email protected] if you only have one email address and have multiple family members to register. Please include the first and last name of each person you would like to register so we can provide you with an email forwarder.
Once you have all registered and uploaded the required individual photos to your accounts, we will be able to set up a Family/Couple profile for you.
What photos do I need to supply for a family or couple profile?
For this profile we will need the following:
- Portrait family/couple photo: We need a PORTRAIT photo clearly showing all family members that can be used as your main photo. Please ensure you allow space around the shot to allow us to crop to suit.
- Other photos: Please also send through a range of current photos showcasing you as a family/couple. For families it’s great to also have shots of siblings together, parents together, parent with child etc.
